Signs this is the right conversation
- Financial information reaches you too late to act on
- The books, the tax return and the advice come from different people
- Two or more corporations, or a trust in the picture
- A lender, a purchase or a restructuring coming in the next year
- Cash accumulating in the corporation with no plan for it
- Decisions get made and the tax consequences turn up later
- The owner is still coordinating the finance function personally
An incorporated professional with a holding company and a succession question is a better fit than a larger business that wants a year-end filing and nothing else. Ongoing relationships generally start around $750k in revenue; projects have no revenue filter, but they need a real transaction or decision behind them.
When something else fits better
We would rather say so in the first exchange than in the third month. Something else fits better when:
- You need one return filed and no ongoing relationship. Corporate or personal tax filing covers it.
- You have one specific question, where a second opinion is faster.
- You have internal finance staff and need review only. See compilation and review engagements.
- The business is early enough that a bookkeeper covers it. CPA Quick Support keeps a CPA on call from $99 a month.
- Records arrive once a year and that arrangement works for you.
If you are somewhere in between, the sixteen decisions page is the fastest way to see how we think before you send anything.
